Nike Kobe 8 Protro "Siempre Mio" Basketball Shoes

The Kobe 8 Protro “Siempre Mio” are among the most personal and emotional shoes that Nike has created around the legacy of Kobe Bryant.

The inspiration comes from a true story between Kobe and Pau Gasol. At a charity auction in 2012, both ended up sharing ownership of a racehorse called “Siempre Mio”. Years later, Nike brings back that memory to create a shoe that speaks of friendship, loyalty, and the strong bond that united the two, summed up in a phrase that appears on the metallic lace horseshoe: “Siempre Hermanos”.

The entire shoe revolves around that equestrian universe shared by Kobe and Pau: the sand-coloured upper recalls the horse’s coat, the dark brown details use a pony hair-like finish, and the heel stitching looks as if it came straight from a saddle. Even the translucent sole blends blue and pink, as if the horse were disappearing into the horizon at sunset.

Moreover, the edition keeps the essence of the Kobe 8 Protro intact. Beneath that emotional aesthetic, it remains a shoe built for competition, with an Engineered Mesh upper, Nike React foam, and the classic herringbone traction adapted with a more aggressive pattern. But here, the story weighs as much as the performance.
